The mighty playoff bound C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks Softball Express under the guidance of head coach J.J. Iracheta and assistant coaches Heriberto Roiz, Corina Escontrias, Tony Martinez and Johnny Hernandez closed out their regular season schedule on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 with a road trip to the “Peanut Capital of the World” Floresville, Texas for a 7:00 PM non-district softball diamond matchup against their future District 29-5A opponent the Floresville Lady Tigers who entered this contest with an overall season record of 14-7 while the visiting Lady Mavericks came in with a season mark of 20-9.
At the start of the 2016 softball season, the mighty C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks made history by winning their first ever softball tournament (Harlandale ISD Invitational Tourney) in school history and tonight they go into the record books once again as for the first time in school history the Lady Mavericks have won more than 20 games in a single season by virtue of their 10 to 2 victory over the Floresville Lady Tigers.
The home standing and also playoff bound Floresville Lady Tigers tool the early lead with a pair of runs in the home half of the second inning courtesy of a walk, a double and a Lady Mavericks error.
In the top half of the second inning, the Pride of Southern Maverick County the mighty C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks quickly erased their two run deficit with a five run output with Marychelo Flores leading off the frame with a solid double, Daniela Rodriguez was hit by a pitch, Marychelo Flores scored on an error, Lorena Sanchez belted an RBI single to drive in Daniela Rodriguez, with two outs Lynet Gil walked to load the bases, Cassandra Flores blasted an RBI double to bring home Lorena Sanchez, Alyssa Lopez connected with a two RBI double to drive in Lynet Gil and Cassandra Flores to five the Lady Mavericks a 5 to 2 lead.
The top of the fourth saw the Lady Mavericks tack on a lone run with Amberley Garza stroking a double, with one out, Cassandra Flores advanced Amberley Garza over to third on a ground out and Amberley Garza raced home on a throwing error.
In the top of the sixth the talented Lady Maverick put the game away with a four run production with Lorena Sanchez igniting the rally with a single, Amberley Garza followed with a double, Lynet Gil came through with an RBI double to drive in Lorena Sanchez, Cassandra Flores reached safely on fielder’s choice allowing Amberley Garza to score on the play, Alyssa Lopez connected with a two run double to bring home Lynet Gil and Cassandra Flores giving the Lady Mavericks a comfortable 10 to 2 lead over the Floresville Lady Tigers.
Lady Mavericks staring and winning pitcher Connie Hernandez proceeded to retire the side in order in the bottom of the sixth and seventh inning respectively to give the Lady Mavericks their record setting 21st victory of the season with the convincing 10 to 2 victory of their future District 29-5A foe the Floresville Lady Tigers.
