Eagle Pass Sports Central is pleased to announce that Eagle Pass Lady Eagles four year standout catcher/third baseman Nina Flores daughter of Cesar Flores and Rebecca Martinez Flores has signed her Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic career with the NCAA Division I University of the Incarnate Word Lady Cardinals members of the tough Southland Conference where she will be playing for head softball coach Amanda Gamboa and will be joining her sister the Eagle Pass Lady Eagles all-time homerun hitter Monica Flores who s currently closing out her freshmen season as an outfielder for the Lady Cardinals.
The young talented Nina Flores began her softball career playing T-Ball at the tender age of 8 with the Eagle Pass Youth Baseball Softball Association as well as with the famed Border Bunch traveling team. At the age of 12 Nina Flores was a key member of the history making Junior League Softball All-Stars that advanced all the way to the Junior League Softball World Series that were held in Kirkland, Washington where they compete against nothing but the very best from around the United States and the World. During the off season Nina Flores has continued to hone her skills playing with the Texas Bombers traveling softball team under the direction of head coach Phillip Gonzalez
During her outstanding four year career with the Lady Eagles Nina Flores was very instrumental offensively and defensively no matter whether she was catching behind the plate or patrolling the hot corner at third base in leading the Lady Eagles to a district championship all four years and venturing deep into the post season. Nina Flores is truly a coach’s dream being the ultimate team player as she plays the game with plenty of determination, heart and desire and always gave it 110% both on the field at the plate. Her demeanor on and off the playing field was simply remarkable always having a very positive attitude doing whatever it took for the team to succeed and always being a great example to all of her teammates especially the younger players on the team.
During her freshman year Nina Flores was selected to the then 29-5A all-district honorable mention team. in her sophomore season she was selected to the 29-5A all-district team as a third baseman. Her junior year she was unanimously selected to the District 29-6A first team as the starting catcher for the Lady Eagles and in her senior year she was once again voted unanimous to the District 29-6A all-district first team by the respective district head baseball coaches.
During her four years of playing at the varsity level against truly high caliber opposing teams young Nina Flores played the game the right way with her glove and bat doing the talking for her. Her defensive prowess on the field was brilliant many times coming up with several sensational game winning defensive plays as well a being a very reliable hitter at the plate producing many a clutch base hit that led to numerous victories. Her level play on the field and at the plate was simply very intense but always exemplifying good sportsmanship, playing the game with great determination, dignity, pride and class which will be a tremendous asset to the University of the Incarnate Word Lady Cardinals softball program for the next four years.
During her recently completed senior year, Nina Flores finished with a very solid .333 batting average and an equally solid .891 fielding average. Eagle Pass Sports Central congratulates Nina Flores for her outstanding four year high school softball career with the Eagle Pass Lady Eagles and thank you for the numerous thrills and memories that you provided throughout your four year high school career and wish you the absolute very best of luck in your collegiate softball career with the Lady Cardinals of the NCAA Division I University of the Incarnate Word as well as in all of your future endeavors. Way to Go Nina!
