The Eagle Pass Youth Baseball Softball Association Babe Ruth 13 year old division resumed action on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 with a matchup between the Kunafin Aggies and the Mike Garcia State Farm Insurance Cardinals under the lights at venerable Moncada’s baseball field in a game that had plenty of thrilling action and went down to the final at bat before the outcome of this game was decided.

The visiting Kunafin Aggies dented the scoreboard first with a three run out put in the top half of the very first inning with Kristian Barcena blasting a one out triple, CJ Jimenez drove Barcena home with an RBI single, Mikey Perry drew a base on balls, Polo Amaya then connected with a two RBI double to bring home CJ Jimenez and Mikey Perry to give the Kunafin Aggies the early 3 to 0 lead over the Cardinals.

The Mike Garcia State Farm Insurance Cardinals countered with a lone run in the bottom half of the first inning with Rey Esquivel connecting with a two out double and advancing o third on a fielding error, right fielder and cleanup batter TJ Rankin came through with a clutch two out RBI double to bring home Rey Esquivel.

In the top of the second the Kunafin Aggies continued their scoring production with yet another three run outburst to take a 6 to 1 lead over the Mike State Farm Cardinals.  Angel Saucedo, John Kalem, and Kristian Barcena drew back to back to back walks to load the bases,  CJ Jimenez stepped up to the plate and delivered the game’s big blow with the bass clearing three RBI double to drive in all three runners on base.

The Mike Garcia State Farm Insurance Cardinals countered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to narrow their deficit to three runs with Noe Castillon and Sebastian Garcia being issued back to back walks, with one out Edward Mendoza stroked an RBI single to drive in Noe Castillon, Rey Esquivel reached on a fielder’s choice, TJ Rankin reached on a base on balls to load the bases, Dre Esquivel also drew a walk to force in Sebastian Garcia in from third.

In the top half of the fifth inning the Kunain Aggies tacked on a valuable insurance run with Kristian Barcena reaching safely on an error ad later came around to score on a sacrifice fly out to centerfield off the bat of Mikey Perry to extend the Aggies lead to 7 to 3.

But as usually the case in the grand old game of baseball ‘it ain’t over til it’s over” as was the case on this night as the valiant Mike Garcia State Farm Insurance Cardinals pulled off a dramatic late inning comeback tallying three runs in the bottom of the fifth with Carlos Lopez, Rey Esquivel and TJ Rankin each coming around to score a run in that frame but unfortunately the rally fell just one run short as the potential game tying run being stranded at first enabling the Kunafin Aggies to walk away with the hard fought 7 to 6 victory of the Mike Garcia State Farm Insurance Cardinals.
