Coming off their impressive showing against the Laredo Cigarroa Toros last Friday, the mighty C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks under the guidance of head coach J.J. Iracheta, Jr, and assistant coaches Heriberto Roiz, Corina Escontrias, Tony Martinez and Johnny Hernandez resumed the district softball diamond battles on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 by hosting the Laredo Martin Lady Tigers in a 5:00 PM District 29-5A softball matchup at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center Softball Field.  The home standing C.C. Winn lady Mavericks entered this contest currently tied for third place in the district race along with the Uvalde Lobos.

With Mother Nature threatening to make an appearance this game was mutually agreed upon to be moved up to 5:00 PM and the Lady Mavericks wasted no time in taking the lead with a lone run in the bottom half of the first inning with Cassandra Flores continuing to swing a hot bat all season long belting a solid double to lead off the frame, with one out the always dependable Giselle Cerda came through with an RBI single to drive in Cassandra Flores.

In the bottom of the second the Lady Mavericks erupted with a huge 12 run production pounding out 12 base hits in that frame. Lorena Sanchez ignited the rally with a double, Monica Rodriguez followed with a single and courtesy runner Anissa Garcia advanced to third on the play, Rodriguez and Garcia then executed a double steal to perfection with Rodriguez taking second and Garcia stealing home, Lynet Gil stroked an RBI single to drive in Monica Rodriguez, Cassandra Flores blasted an RBI double to bring home Lynet Gil, Alyssa Lopez connected with an RBI double to bring home Cassandra Flores, Giselle Cerda connected with a fence rattling RBI triple to tally Alyssa Lopez, with one out Daniela Rodriguez stroked an RBI double to bring home Giselle Cerda, Yazmin Martinez singled to put runners at the corners. Lorena Sanchez belted an RBI double to tally Daniela Rodriguez and Yazmin Martinez, courtesy runner Anissa Garcia would later steal home, Monica Rodriguez followed with a double, Lynet Gil stepped up to the plate and delivered the finishing blow launching a two run homerun to five the Lady Mavericks an insurmountable 13 to 0 lead much to the delight of the ever present Mavericks Nation that game in and game out are there to cheer and support their beloved Lady Mavericks.

Lady Mavericks starting pitcher Connie Hernandez in the meantime was breezing along with three complete scoreless innings of work inside the circle scattering just two harmless base hits before being relieved by Brittany Perez who hurled one scoreless inning of work.

The Lady Mavericks brought an early conclusion to this contest by tacking on a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning with Lynet Gil leading off the frame with a single and would advance to second on a passed ball then scampered to third on a wild pitch and came home on yet another wild pitch, Cassandra Flores was issued a walk giving her a perfect day at the plate going 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles and a triple to go along with the base on balls, Alyssa Lopez walked and Giselle Cerda stroked a single to load the base for cleanup batter Marychelo Flores who put the exclamation point on the victory belting an RBI single to bring home Cassandra Flores with the 15th and final run of the game as Mother Nature made her appearance with a torrential downpour just as Cassandra Flores’s foot touched home plate.  News hitting the Eagle Pass Sports Wire after the game was that the Uvalde Lobos were defeated by the Somerset Lady Bulldogs by the score of 10 2 thus giving the Lady Mavericks sole possession of third place in the district race with two more games left on the schedule.
