Laredo LBJ Wolves 6 to 3

Coming off their upset loss at the hands of the Laredo United South Panthers the previous night, the Eagle Pass Eagles varsity baseball squad returned to their district diamond battles on Friday, April 15, 2016 to host the Laredo LBJ Wolves in 5:00 PM matchup at the Leopoldo “Polo” Moncada Baseball Field.

The home standing Eagles mentored by head coach Reynol Mendoza and assistant coaches Henry Silva and Chris Villa came into this contest seeking to avenge a stunning loss at the hands of the cellar dwelling Laredo LBJ Wolves back on March 29, 2016.  The Eagles wasted no time in taking the lead in this game plating a lone run in the home half of the very first inning with Mando Lopez leading off the frame with a single, Olexis Gutierrez reached on a fielder’s choice but Mando Lopez was forced out at second on the play, Gutierrez promptly stole second, Dee Andre Torres stroked an RBI single to bring home Olexis Gutierrez with the first run of the game.

In the bottom of the second the eagles erupted with a five run product to extend their lead to 6 to 0 over the LBJ Wolves,  Rey Mendoza led off the frame with a walk, Alan Rodriguez sacrificed Mendoza over to second Sergio Soliz also drew a base on balls, Mando Lopez singled to load the bases, Olexis Gutierrez belted a two RBI single to bring home Rey Mendoza and Sergio Soliz, Dee Andre Torres followed with a two RBI triple to deliver Mando Lopez and Olexis Gutierrez home. Dee Andre Torres would later tally on a double steal.

The visiting LBJ Wolves broke into the scoring column with a lone unearned run in the third and then tacked on a pair of harmless runs in the top of the seventh as the Eagles got their revenge taking the victory by the final score of 6 to 3 with Tony Galvan earning the pitching victory with Eli Perez and Rey Mendoza seeing some relief duty on the mound.
