For the sixth consecutive year the original founding members of the then known Eagle Pass Boys Club will be hosting their highly successful Annual 7-Steak Fundraising Scholarship Plate Sale on Saturday, June 25, 2016 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Eagle Pass Boys & Girls Club located on 1904 Antonio M. Garcia St. Tickets are available at $6.00 each. Back in the good old days of yesteryear around 1968, a group of around 12 then young boys became the founding members of the then known Eagle Pass Boys Club which was located in an old tin sided barrack on Garrison St in Eagle Pass, Texas under the direction of then known Boys Club Director Mr. Joe Quintana. Quintana took these young boys under his wing and guided, mentored and molded these young sandlot boys into future successful business men, educators, civic leaders as well as self made entrepreneurs by getting them involved in organized competitive sports, civic activities, Boy Scouts and other activities throughout the City of Eagle Pass, Texas and Maverick County. In the process he taught them to realize their full potential as productive and caring citizens of this community as well as the importance of being respectful, courteous and the values of education and family life as well.
Original founding members Luis Garza and Abel Zertuche stated to Eagle Pass Sports Central; ‘This fundraiser is group effort of the former members of the 1968 Boys Club The loss of one of our original members Alvaro “Willard” Garza brought us back to honor a friend and an organization that was like our second home. The Boys Club membership created long lasting lifetime friendships that have lasted nearly a half century. It was a heartfelt decision that this was the time to give back to the Boys and Girls Club to continue to give the youth of Eagle Pass, Texas a safe place to be just like we had back in 1968.’
The 12 original founding members who are now fully grown men most of them in their early 60’s have returned from far and wide to host this great event to give back to their beloved original hometown of Eagle Pass, Texas. These original members will be present to cook and serve the 7-Steak fundraising Plate Sale as well to greet and chat with the public all ready, willing and able to share their personal memorable experiences of their years as members of the then known Eagle Pass Boys Club.
Eagle Pass Sports Central highly commends the outstanding effort put forth by these former local youths for being role models to the youth of the community of Eagle Pass, Texas and invite the public to support this worthy cause so come out Saturday, June 25, 2015 and support the original Boys Club members by purchasing a ticket or two of the mouthwatering 7-Steak Plate with all trimmings. Tickets are only $6.00 each. DONATIONS will be greatly accepted and appreciated!
