After their stunning loss at the hands of the Laredo Alexander Bulldogs last Thursday night in their district opening matchup. The Eagle Pass Eagles mentored by head coach Tom Gonzalez return to the friendly confirms of the Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium this coming Saturday, September 24, 2016 to tangle with the Laredo LBJ Wolves in a 7:00 PM District 29-6A encounter.  This game has also been designated as the Eagles Parent’s night with the Eagles varsity football players paying tribute to their respective parents during pregame festivities.

The visiting Laredo LBJ Wolves are under the direction of none other than the wise old veteran and former Eagle Pass Eagles head football coach Oki Villasenor.  The Wolves currently sport an overall season record of 0-4 and 0-1 in district play did however manage to hold the high scoring Laredo United Longhorns to only 14 points in the first half of their game last Friday night.

Offensively the Wolves will feature a predominately ground oriented attack utilizing the services of their stout and hefty offensive line comprised of right tackle Ismael Gonzalez #50, right guard Reynaldo Martinez #74, center Albert Herrera #51, left guard Myriel Jaramillo #75 and left tackle the veteran Juan Vierya #77 all of which are big and strong and will stay with the blocks. Albert De La Torre #11 is now the starting signal caller a very fast elusive runner and a very accurate passer who certainly must be contained.  Former starting quarterback Albert Garcia #1 will still come in for certain plays.  Victor Castro #21 is now the featured running back.  He is explosive and a tough hard runner. Daniel Uribe is the fullback and tight end used mainly as a lead blocker, The Wolves capable receiving corps include slot back John Molina #20, wingback Edward Santillano #22 and wide receiver Jorge Rico #6.  Look for the Wolves to come out with numerous offensive formations in this game.

Defensively the LBJ Wolves are relatively young and are tutored by Defensive Coordinator and former Eagle Pass Eagles assistant coach Randy Bermea who will feature a 4-2-5 defensive scheme with a solid defensive front four in the likes of defensive end Julio Diaz #60, anchor end Merlin Carreon #56, defensive tackle Victor Flores #68 and defensive tackle Dominic Rodriguez #5.  The Wolves’ hard hitting and quick pursuing linebackers will be Ismael Espinoza #31 and Ricardo Muzquiz #39.  The Wolves secondary will be patrolled by cornerback Brian Guerrero#30, cornerback, Sergio Caudillo #14, safety Mark Santillano #25, safety Jacinto Mata #8 with John Molina #20 as the nickel back.

It’s no secret that Eagles will be seeking to get the ground attack clicking on all cylinders after they were held in check by the Alexander defensive line who dominated the line of scrimmage.  The Eagles offensive line with Cody Esquivel, Isaac Castillo Jovan Garza and company will look to get back to basics and come off the ball and maintain the blocks to turn loose the speedy Mark Venegas and the bruising Ricky Medina into the Wolves secondary.  The Eagles passing game which did an amicable job against Alexander will certainly be used against the Wolves with Ricky Reyes, Isaac Perales and Jose Riojas ready to tote the air mail to the promise land.

The injury riddled Eagle Pass defense will need for the backups to step it up to another level as they will be severely tested by the veteran Wolves head coach Oki Villasenor by land and air employing numerous offensive formations and of course with his wealth of knowledge you can expect some trick plays as well.  The Eagle Pass Line backers and secondary will need to come up and assist with run support against the Wolves but be alert for the occasional pass as well and force a few turnovers.

Eagle Pass Sports Central wishes the mighty Eagles the very best of luck against the Laredo LBJ Wolves and invite the entire community to come out and join the loyal Legion of Eagles Fans in supporting the Eagle Pass Eagles. GO EAGLES! BEAT THE WOLVES!
