A former legendary district gridiron matchup from the 1950’s and 1960’s will be renewed this coming Friday, October 7, 2016 when the Eagle Pass Eagles varsity football team under the direction of head football coach Tom Gonzalez journey to San Antonio, Texas to tangle with the South San Bobcats in a 7;30 PM District 29-6A football contest. The visiting Eagle Pass Eagles will venture into this game sporting an overall season record of 3-2 and a district mark of 1-1.  The home standing Bobcats will enter with a 0-5 season record and an 0-2 district mark.  These two former district foes from the past used to produce some hard hitting and memorable games back in the day and you can bet the kitchen sink that Friday night’s game will be no exception. 7, 2016

Offensively the home standing Bobcats are predominately run oriented running the option out of a double slot formation.  Spearheading the Bobcats offensive attack will be quarterback Raul Agosto #20 a very good runner and quite athletic.  Joining him in the backfield is their featured running back Jaime Cabrera #22 a hardnosed quick runner.  The double slot backs will be manned by Ivan Sanford #25 and James Valencia #3.  The split receiver will be Isaiah Pacheco #15.  Manning the offensive line for the Bobcats will be the Man Mountain John Vasquez (6’3” 325 lbs.) #77 at right tackle, Jacob Araiza #54 at right guard, Eden Estaraada #52 at center, Hilario Alaquinez #68 at left guard and Serrata #65 at left tackle.  The Bobcats will also bring in their massive nose guard Ernest Hernandez (6’0:, 280 lbs) #90 and line him up as a tight end.

Defensively the Bobcats will have massive Ernest Hernandez #90 at nose guard, Jay Gonzalez #42 at defensive end and Rico Garcia #55 at anchor end.  The Bobcats line backing crew will be Jesus De La Rosa #44 as the Willie linebacker, Joshua Clement #21 as the Bandit and Jaime Gonzalez #30 as the Pete.  The Bobcats secondary will be patrolled by Albert Gallegos #23 at the Monster slot, Don Pedro Silva #12 and Dallas Quinones #2 at the corners with James Valencia #3 and Martin Alderete #11 as the safeties.

The visiting Eagle Pass Eagles will enter this contest seeking to unleash their patented running game led by Mark Venegas, Ricky Medina and Jose Riojas against the Bobcats defensive unit.  Look for the Eagles to also mix in their short passing game to compliment their patented running game with Ricky Reyes, Isaac Perales and Brian Palacios ready the carry the mail to pay dirt.  The Eagles offensive line will have the vital role in determining the final outcome of this contest. I they dominate the trenches the Eagles should come away with the victory.

The still depleted Eagles defense will have to win the battle in the trenches to nullify the Bobcats double slot option offense holding them to minimal gains.  Although Jesus Fernandez and Angel Miranda have returned to man the defensive front line out of the four original starters, they are not yet at 100%.  Standout defensive end Haran Rodriguez could very well have a field in this game.  The Eagles linebackers will have to do their reads quickly and react appropriately to the run or pass.  The predominately run oriented Bobcats do however have a pair of tall receivers that they target in the passing game so the Eagles secondary unit of Alan Morales, Kevin Garcia, Armando Martinez and Dee Andre Torres must stay alert and not get suckered in by the Bobcats running game.

Eagle Pass Sports Central wishes the mighty Eagles the very best of luck against the South San Bobcats and invites the entire community to make the trip to San   Antonio support the Eagles. GO EAGLES! BEAT THE BOBCATS!
