The Eagle Pass Eagles varsity football team under the tutelage of head football coach Tom Gonzalez riding a two district game winning streak resume their district battles this coming Friday, October 14, 2016 when they host none other than the District 29-6A co-leading Laredo United South Panthers who are coming off a huge victory over the pre-season heavily favorite Laredo United Longhorns this past Friday by the final score of 45 to 33.  Kickoff time for the Eagles- Panthers game is scheduled for 7:30 PM at the Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium.  The visiting United South Panthers will venture into Friday night’s game sporting an overall season record of 5-1 and an unblemished district mark of 3-0.  The home standing Eagle Pass Eagles will enter sporting an overall season record of 4-2 and a district record of 2-1.

The explosive and high scoring Panthers will be led by their talented play making quarterback Ismael Contreras #10 who is very quick with a great and accurate passing arm and runs the zone read to near perfection.  Joining him in the backfield will be their hard nose tailback back Jesus Posada #12 who possesses great speed d South and vision. Key will be Must Stop #21. Also in the backfield for the Panthers will be Fullback Marco Briones #2 a very tough and great blocker.  The highly talented receiving corps for the Panthers will feature Wing Back Edgar Cavazos #21 who is also used as a running back on several plays, wide receiver Julian Zertuche #81 a very tall receiver and great playmaker and wide receiver Andrew Davila #6 a good handed receiver.  The Panthers’ offensive line will be comprised by Juwan  Arce #74 (6’ 3”, 275lbs.) at right tackle, Josue Huerta #60 at right guard, Juan De Luna #72 at center, Angel Perez #78 (6’ 2”, 275 lbs) at left guard and Gustavo Rodriguez #79 (6’ 2”. 270lbs) at left tackle.

Defensively the United South Panthers field an overall very quick and stout unite.  The Defensive front line will have Cesar Castillon #67 at nose guard, Hector Ferrero 55 at defensive end and Eduardo Duarte #56 at the anchor end. The line backing corps will feature a quartet of very formidable, quick pursuing and hard tackling unit with Omar Barajas #5 at the Willie linebacker, Cesar Contreras #31 as the Bandit, Alan Martinez #43 as the Pete linebacker with Romeo Rodriguez #25 as the Sam linebacker.  The secondary will be patrolled by Mark Reyna #14 and Lorenzo Solis #7 at the corners and Richard Vasquez #9 and Bryan Gutierrez #4 as the safeties.

The Eagles will counter will the formidable running game with the speed burning tailbacks Mark Venegas who had a phenomenal night last week and has rushed for 741 yards so far for an average of 123.5 yards per game.  The Eagles running game will also feature their slot back Jose Riojas along with quarterbacks Ricky Medina or Brian Palacios.  The Eagles passing game will have to step it up to another notch to compliment their patented running game.  As usual the key to success in this game will be if the big offensive line can dominate the line of scrimmage both on running and passing downs.

The Eagles de[pleated defense who certainly are nowhere near 100% but will need to dominate the line of scrimmage, gang tackle the Panthers running backs with bone shattering tackles.  The Eagles secondary will certainly get tested heavily but will need to come away with a few turnovers and limit their time out on the field.

Eagle Pass Sports Central wishes the mighty Eagle Pass Eagles the very best of luck against the Laredo United South Panthers and invite the entire community of Eagle Pass, Texas to come out to the stadium on Friday night and support the Eagle Pass Eagles. GO eagles! BEAT THE panthers!
